Understand Roles and Permissions in Relume Publish
By the end of this doc, you'll be able to:
- Identify the 5 roles available in Relume Publish
- Understand what each role can and can't do
- Choose the right role when inviting someone to a site
- Compare permissions side by side using the permission matrix
- Know who to contact for billing versus site-access questions
Relume Publish uses roles to control what each person on your team can see and do on a site. Every role can view the site and leave comments, but editing, publishing, and account-level controls are split up by role. Assigning the right one keeps your site secure while letting people do their job without waiting on approvals they don't need.
The Roles
Owner
The Owner has full control of the site. They can build, edit, publish, and manage people, settings, domains, and billing.
The Owner is the only role that can delete the site or transfer ownership to someone else. There's exactly one Owner per site.
Admin
The Admin can do everything the Owner can, except delete the site or transfer ownership. They manage collaborators, domains, billing, and site settings.
An Admin can remove the site from their own account — this only affects their account and doesn't delete the site for anyone else.
💡 Think of Admin as a co-owner role. Assigning it to a trusted teammate means your site keeps running smoothly even when you're away.
Editor
The Editor builds and ships the site. They can edit structure, layout, and styling, edit content, add pages and sections, and publish. They can also manage most site settings, including redirects, forms, custom code, discoverability, and page settings.
Editors can't manage people, billing, or domains, and can't delete the site or transfer ownership. Like Admins, they can remove the site from their own account without affecting anyone else's access.
Viewer
The Viewer reviews and gives feedback. They can view the site and every tab — Sitemap, Wireframe, and Design — preview it, and leave comments.
Viewers can't edit, publish, or use AI. This makes the role a good fit for stakeholders who only need to see the work and weigh in on it, not change it.
Billing Contact
The Billing Contact isn't a site role; it's a hosting-only contact who pays for hosting and manages the payment method, billing details, and Launch traffic tier.
A Billing Contact has no control over the site itself. They can't edit, publish, manage people, or transfer ownership.
📝 Billing Contact is a hosting-related contact tied to a later Relume project, not a collaborator role like the other four.
Permission Matrix
Use this table to compare exactly what each role can do, action by action.
| Action | Owner | Admin | Editor | Viewer | Billing Contact |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| View site | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| Comment | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| Use AI (account credits) | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
| SEO (social images/metadata) | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Redirects | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Edit (content/structure/layout/styling) | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Publish | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Rename site | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Custom scripts | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Permissions/access | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Custom domain settings | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Site billing | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ |
| Transfer billing | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
| General site settings | ✅ | ✅ | Partial | ❌ | ❌ |
| Delete site | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Remove site from account | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ |
| Transfer ownership | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
| Request access | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
📝 "Remove site from account" only removes the site from that person's own account — it doesn't delete the site for the Owner or anyone else. Only the Owner can permanently delete a site.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a site have more than one Owner?
No. Each site has exactly one Owner. If you need someone else to have near-full control, assign them the Admin role instead.
What's the difference between Admin and Editor?
Admins manage the business side of the site — people, billing, and domains — in addition to building and publishing. Editors focus on building and publishing but can't manage people, billing, or domains.
Can Viewers leave feedback on the site?
Yes. Every role, including Viewer, can leave comments. Viewers just can't edit, publish, or use AI features.
Is Billing Contact a role I can assign like the others?
Not currently. Billing Contact is a hosting-only contact for payment and billing details, not a site collaborator role.
What happens if I remove the site from my account as an Admin or Editor?
The site disappears from your own account only. It stays intact for the Owner and everyone else with access.
