Transferring Site Ownership

Transfer Ownership of Your Site

Transferring ownership lets you hand full control of a site to someone else — like a client, teammate, or agency partner — without losing access altogether. Once the transfer is accepted, the new owner takes over the site and you're automatically set as an Admin, so you can still access it if needed. This is useful when you've built a site on behalf of a client and it's time to hand over the keys.

By the end of this doc, you'll be able to:

  • Understand what happens when you transfer site ownership
  • Start a transfer from either the site card or Site Settings
  • Send an ownership transfer request to any email address
  • Check whether a transfer is still pending or has been accepted

Before You Begin

Before getting started, make sure you have:

⚠️ Note: Once the new owner accepts the transfer, your role on the site automatically changes from Owner to Admin. You'll keep access, but they'll have full control.

How to Transfer Site Ownership

There are two ways to start a transfer — from the All sites page, or from within Site Settings. Both lead to the same transfer flow.

Option 1: Transfer from the ‘All Sites’ Page

  1. Go to All sites.
  2. Click the  (more options) icon next to the site you want to transfer.
  3. Select Transfer ownership from the menu.

Option 2: Transfer from Site Settings

  1. Click the  (more options) icon next to the site you want to transfer.
  2. Select Settings from the menu.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Ownership & access.
  4. Next to your name in the Members list, click the  icon.
  5. Select Transfer ownership.

Completing the Transfer

Once you've started the transfer using either option above, the steps are the same:

  1. In the Transfer to external email field, enter the email address of the person you're transferring ownership to.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Review the confirmation message, which shows who you're transferring the site to and confirms you'll become an Admin once they accept.
  4. Click Confirm transfer.

Your Ownership & access page will now show an Owner transfer pending notice, letting you know an email has been sent and the transfer is waiting on their acceptance.

💡 Tip: You can check back on Ownership & access at any time to see whether the transfer is still pending or has been accepted. Once accepted, the new owner will appear with the Owner role and your role will update to Admin.

Tips & Best Practices

💡 Tip: Double-check the email address before clicking Next — the transfer is sent to whatever address you enter, whether or not they already have a Relume account.
💡 Tip: If you're handing off a client site, transferring ownership (rather than just sharing access) ensures they have full control, including billing and permissions for that site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to my access after I transfer ownership?
You're automatically set to Admin once the new owner accepts. You'll still be able to access and work on the site — you just won't have owner-level controls like transferring ownership again or deleting the site.

Does the person I'm transferring to need a Relume account already?
The doc doesn't specify — please confirm this with the product team before publishing, since it affects what happens if the recipient's email isn't tied to an existing account.

How long does the recipient have to accept the transfer?
The doc doesn't specify an expiration window — please confirm before publishing.

Can I cancel a pending transfer?
The doc doesn't specify — please confirm whether a pending transfer can be canceled or only completed/left pending.

⚠️ Assumptions & Inferences — Please Review

Remove this section before publishing.
  • Audience: Assumed the reader is an existing site Owner with no prior experience transferring ownership.
  • Icon naming: Referred to the three-dot icon as " (more options)" — please confirm this is the term used elsewhere in Relume's docs.
  • Benefit framing: The opening line about handing off client sites "without losing access altogether" is inferred from the Admin fallback behavior shown in the screenshots, not explicitly stated by you.
  • FAQ answers on account requirement, expiration window, and cancellation: These three questions are realistic support questions, but I don't have source confirmation for the answers — flagged inline above rather than guessed.
  • Tip about billing/permissions: Inferred as a plausible reason to use ownership transfer vs. sharing access — not confirmed from your notes.
  • Related Articles: All three are placeholder guesses based on adjacent topics (roles, permissions, invites) — confirm these exist or replace with real links.
