Publishing and Hosting Your Site in Relume Publish

Outline: Publishing and Hosting Your Site in Relume Publish

This is a planning outline, not the final doc. Each section lists what needs to go in it and the specific info to gather. Once you fill in the notes, send them back and I'll write the full doc.

Working Title

How to Publish and Host Your Site in Relume Publish
(Assumes the site is already built — this doc picks up from "site is designed" to "site is live and stays live.")

1. Learning Outcomes (draft — will finalise once content is set)

  • Publish a site so it's live on the web
  • Connect a custom domain or use the free Relume subdomain
  • Set up redirects when needed
  • Control whether the site is discoverable/indexed
  • Monitor and manage the live site (analytics, sharing, ownership)

2. Overview

What "publishing" means in Relume Publish and why it matters — e.g. moving from draft/preview to a live, hosted site. Need from you: a 1-2 sentence plain description of what happens when you hit "publish" — is there a specific publish action/button, or does hosting happen automatically once a domain is connected?

3. Before You Begin

Likely prerequisites — confirm which apply:

⚠️ Note: Any limitation to flag upfront? (e.g. free plan sites use a Relume subdomain only, or a usage cap)

4. Main Steps: Publishing Your Site

Need from you: the actual click-path. Is there a "Publish" button somewhere, or is the site live as soon as it's created? Screenshot of that moment would help.

4a. General settings

What lives here and is any of it relevant to going live? (From your screenshot: General is the first tab — need to know what's in it.)

4b. Domains

The core of "hosting." Need steps for:

  • Using the default Relume subdomain
  • Connecting a custom domain (DNS records? Where does the user go to add one?)
  • Any verification/waiting period

4c. Redirects

When and why a user would set one up (e.g. migrating an old URL, renaming a page). Need the actual steps to add a redirect.

4d. Discoverability

This is likely the SEO/search-engine-indexing controls. Need to know: what toggles/fields live here (e.g. sitemap, indexing on/off, meta tags)?

OR

Since you've already written a Discoverability doc, don't repeat those steps here. Just a sentence or two noting that Discoverability controls whether search engines can find your published site, then link out: "For details on managing this, see [Discoverability doc link]."

5. Managing the Live Site

From your second screenshot (the site's dropdown menu), these seem relevant to hosting/publishing rather than design:

  • View site — opens the live/published site
  • Share — need to know: sharing a preview link vs. the live site? Any permission levels?
  • Analytics — what's tracked here, and is it built-in or does it link to a 3rd party (e.g. Google Analytics)?
  • Settings — likely a shortcut to the Site Settings panel from screenshot 1
  • Transfer ownership / Rename / Delete — brief mentions, or full steps? These may be light-touch (a sentence or two each) unless they trip people up often

6. Sections to Flag as Out of Scope (confirm)

These tabs showed up in your screenshot but may belong in a different help doc rather than this one:

  • CMS — marked "Coming soon," so skip entirely for now
  • Forms — probably its own doc (form building/data collection), not "publishing"
  • Custom code — could go either way; relevant if users need it to verify domain ownership or add tracking scripts, otherwise it's more of a "customize your site" doc
  • Ownership & access — likely overlaps with "Transfer ownership" above; may be one doc ("team & permissions") rather than part of publishing
  • Usage & billing — only relevant here if publishing/hosting is gated by plan; otherwise it's a billing doc

Let me know which of these you want folded in vs. left out

7. FAQ (placeholder — confirm or replace with real support tickets)

  • "How long does it take for my custom domain to go live?"
  • "Can I unpublish my site?"
  • "What happens to my old URL if I set up a redirect?"

8. Related Articles (placeholder)

  • Setting up Forms (if split out)
  • Managing Team Access & Ownership (if split out)
  • Adding Custom Code to Your Site (if split out)

What I Still Need From You

  1. Screenshots or notes for: General tab, Domains tab (the actual connect-domain flow), Discoverability tab
  2. Confirmation on the "Publish" moment — is it automatic, or a specific action?
  3. Which of the Section 6 items to include vs. spin into separate docs
  4. Any known support tickets/FAQs about publishing or domains
